A new book published in October by Cambridge University Press explores a neglected aspect of the post-Restoration period; The English Republican Exiles in Europe during the Restoration by Dr. Gaby Mahlberg and is part of the Ideas in Context series. This history examines the experiences of the republican exiles living on the Continent. The publisher’s description says the book “…traces the lives, ideas and networks of three seventeenth-century English republicans who left England for the European continent after the Restoration.” Cambridge are renowned for publishing expensive books and this one is no exception. The UK price is over £50 which places it in the unaffordable category for all but specialists in the era.
