Holland on Rome
Sunday, 30 July 2023
A new book by Tom Holland has been published this month. ‘Pax: War and Peace in Rome's Golden Age’ looks at the age of great expansion for Rome in the first and second centuries, from the year of the four Caesars to the rapid expansion of the empire throughout Europe. It is very much a narrative account of this period of Roman history which the publisher describes as “vividly sketching the lives of Romans both ordinary and spectacular, from slaves to emperors.” Those who have followed Holland's output would be especially pleased to see this book as it continues from his earlier books ‘Rubicon’ and ‘Dynasty’ which look at the end of the republic and the rise of the Julio-Claudian emperors. The publisher’s advertising proudly boasts that Pax is a Sunday Times bestseller. ISBN 9781408706985
