The second of Ronald Hutton’s trilogy of biographies of Oliver Cromwell has made its way to Yale’s online inventory. ‘Oliver Cromwell: Commander in Chief’ will be published in August 2024 (USA release is October 2024). This volume examines Cromwell’s life from the capture of King Charles in 1646 to Cromwell’s seizure of power in 1653, a period which includes the establishment of the Commonwealth and Cromwell’s brutal military campaigns in Ireland and Scotland. Readers of the first volume will be clamouring for this continuation of Cromwell’s story. Those who have not yet caught up with the first volume will find the paperback version is available widely.
